France introduced an additional tax for landlords

The French government adopted a legislative amendment, under which landlords who rent their premises with the area less than 14 m2 for the amount of 30-45 euros/m2 (depending on area) and more, will pay an extra annual tax. The changes will take effect from 1 January 2012.

Tax will be imposed on apartments with furniture or without, surrendering for a term of more than nine months in areas where demand exceeds supply, for example in Paris. Rate for furnished studios will be a maximum of 10% and will vary depending on the zone.

Government regulation must be reviewed every three years. The document contains a list of zones which will incur a new tax.

In Paris 92% of studios ranging from 9 to 13 m2 giving up more than 40 Euro/m2 / month. Among apartments ranging from 13 to 17 m2 at a price leased 63 % of the objects.

According to the French state Secretary for housing policy Benoit Apparu, only in Paris there are 20 289 apartments with an area of less than 13 m2, which is 40% of the total number of studios in France.
